Gary McLaren, Owner
Growing up in Aurora, Oregon which is considered the antique capital of Oregon, Gary was surrounded by the world of antiques his whole life. With a keen interest in history, he developed a specialized interest in antiques while still in high school. In pursuing that interest, he opened his first retail antique store in downtown Aurora at the age of 23. Then in 1990, while attending an antique auction, he was working with an auctioneer who decided to take a break and handed him the mike. While in high school he had also been interested in broadcasting, and it hit him that the combination of broadcasting and antiques lived in the world of auctioneering. He continued to run his retail stores until 1996 when he decided to pursue auctioneering. It was a somewhat convoluted road, but in 2003 he purchased the Historic Aurora Colony Auction House and opened McLaren Auction Services. Our services include the appraisal, marketing strategies, and sale of antiques and collectibles as well as estate liquidation and transitional moves. We conduct two regular monthly antique auctions at The Aurora Colony Auction House. Gary is also an active member of The Oregon Auctioneers Association (OAA) and The National Auctioneers Association. (NAA) for the last eight years. In addition, he auctioneers for 15-20 benefit auctions a year ranging from small schools that raise $20,000 to large organizations that raise as much as $300,000.00
While he doesn’t claim to be an expert in any one particular area, he prides himself in knowing a little bit about many different things with a particular enthusiasm for antique furniture, art, advertising, glassware and Western Americana. He likes to keep abreast of the market by attending many antique shows, flea markets, estate sales and other auctions.
On a personal side, he is the proud father of four grown children, with one son serving in the United States Military. He also owns the worlds greatest dog!! Elvis, who is a 17 year old Jack Russell Terrier.
McLaren Auction Services believes strongly in giving back to our community and helping kids whenever we can. Every auction starts with just that attitude. The proceeds from the first three lots sold at each auction goes directly to one of three children’s charities.
We’ve donated thousands of dollars so far and we hope to continue reaching a helping hand!
